The USS Tau (NCC-1871-C) was a Federation Nebula-class starship in service in the late 24th century and the direct successor of the USS Tau-B, under the command of Captain Ryasha Traal, a female unjoined Trill.
Post-Dominion War and Destruction[]
The Tau took part in the Dominion War. After the war ended, the USS Tau assisted with clean-up and repairs in the Alpha Quadrant. During a supply mission to Gamma Hydra IV in 2378, an old cloaked Jem'Hadar mine detonated. All personnel were ordered to escape pods and abandon the ship. Captain Traal died en-route to the shuttlebay. The Tau's warp core breached and obliterated the ship completely.
The surviving crew members were rescued by the USS Excelsior a few hours later.
