The USS Repulse (NCC-2544) was an Excelsior-class starship in service to Starfleet from 2357 until her destruction in 2409.

HistoryEdit

The Repulse had a legacy name, previously held by several vessels named HMS Repulse that served in the pre-21st century Royal Navy on Earth. Her unusually low registry number for the 24th century was the result of a clerical error in Starfleet's bureaucracy, producing a gap five registry numbers wide during the initial construction runs of the Excelsior-class. As a tribute to the long, distinguished run of the Excelsiors as Starfleet's workhorse, those five numbers were assigned to the last five such vessels ever constructed.

DestructionEdit

On 14 February 2409 the Repulse docked at Utopia Planitia Fleet Yards for a scheduled overhaul. On 2 March two dozen Klingon Defense Force Birds-of-Prey launched a bold raid on the shipyard. Captain H'Rori scrambled to get the ship underway and fleeing but her deflector shield generators and one impulse engine were in pieces. The hapless ship, still struggling to detach from drydock, was set upon by two Birds-of-Prey. The IKS mupwI' fired a salvo of quantum torpedoes, one of which penetrated the drydock's shield and detonated against the hull of the Repulse amidships, obliterating the ship instantly and doing significant damage to the drydock.
