The Temporal Accords was an interstellar treaty signed after the development of time travel, prohibiting the use of such technology in altering history. It was in force by 2769, although an earlier version existed by 2381 among governments of the Alpha Quadrant. The Accords permitted time travel only for the purpose of scientific research, and set forth rules and procedures as to how to do so without contaminating the timeline.

However, some groups in possession of time travel technology chose to ignore the Accords, and actively attempted to rewrite history to suit their own ends. These factions were opposed by temporal agents in the 31st century in a conflict known as the Temporal Cold War.

Alternate Universes[]

In the Cryptic universe, the treaty was signed at New Khitomer in the year 2769 by the members of the Galactic Union. Delegates from a variety of species and governments were present to witness the signing of the Temporal Accords. The treaty also provided for the creation of the Temporal Defense Initiative in an effort to safeguard the timeline.

In the Sidoverse, the Federation created the "Universal Treaty of Temporal Peace" (which was later shortened to Temporal Accords) in 2664.
