Sector 001 is the location of the Sol system, and the heart of the Federation.

One famous battle fought here was the Battle of Sector 001. Another famous battle fought here was the Second Battle of Sector 001 in 2380 during the Borg Supercube crisis.

The image in this article represents a fan fiction view. In Star Trek: Star Charts, Alpha Centauri is located in sector 002. And the Star Trek Encyclopedia defines sector 001 as being cubically measured as 20 light years on any side, rather than the rectangular solid depicted here. Remember that not all things on Memory Gamma, in the Star Trek: Encyclopedia, and in the Star Trek: Star Charts book are canon. So take all this information with a grain of sand.
