Construction[]
A heavier variant of the Akira-class carriers, sporting uprated technology from the Sovereign and Intrepid-classes and a full thousand torpedoes higher magazine, the Midway-class is Starfleet's latest heavy gunship. New vessels off the line sport three dozen attack craft in its hangar and twelve torpedo tubes, making the Midway-class a formidable opponent. The USS Icarus-A is is further refinement upon these vessels, with an almost haphazard style of constant modification by her somewhat unorthodox crew, allowing for increased capacity to all primary systems.
Technology[]
The photon torpedo launchers of the Midway-class (tested on the original Akira-class), are located primarily in the aft weapons module in case of a malfunction in the rapid injection system, protecting key systems such as the computer core, and more importantly, the warp core from danger of an internal explosion. If a malfunction occurs, the torpedo will detonate outside the ship.
The Midway-class starship is classified as a carrier starship. It is designed for deep-space exploration and defensive missions. Its advanced armament also make it a formidable warship. It includes the new Type XII Phasers and Mark-X quantum torpedoes in addition to photon torpedoes and tricobalt explosives.
The Midway utilizes a new, more efficient warp design that allows it to safely travel at warp speeds without damaging subspace. It also features the bio-circuitry and gel packs developed and refined in the Intrepid-class starships.
