The IKS Ko'Was was a Klingon K't'inga-class vessel in service of the Klingon Empire in the 23rd century.

The Ko'Was, named after an heroic Klingon warrior from the 22nd century, Ko'Was, was constructed by the Klingons over Qo'noS in 2277. The ship was rushed to completion and pushed into service in 2278.

Romulan Encounter

The Ko'Was' first mission was to protect a Klingon outpost from attack by a renegade Romulan commander. The Ko'Was was no match for a Romulan warbird and the ship was severely damaged and was near destruction. The ship's commander at the time, Captain K'Tal, had Klingon warriors beam to the Klingon outpost and fight the Romulan captors, while the Ko'Was fought in space. The Klingon warriors fought in hand-to-hand combat on the surface and were ultimately able to defeat the Romulans. Meanwhile, the Ko'Was ignited the Romulan warbird's exhaust trail and destroyed one of the warbird's nacelles. The warbird retreated and the battle became one of the most revered in Klingon history.

Khitomer Conference

Later, in 2285, Captain K'Tal became a member of the Klingon High Council, and command of the ship was given to legendary Klingon warrior Kang. Kang commanded the ship through many battles for many years afterward, including in 2293 when Captain Hikaru Sulu tried to take the USS Excelsior to Qo'noS to rescue Captain James T. Kirk and Dr. Leonard McCoy, who were being put on trial for assassination of the Klingon Chancellor, Gorkon. Unfortunately, the Ko'Was was disabled by Ensign Tuvok of the Excelsior, while inside a nebula. The Ko'Was limped back to Qo'noS, but sent a message to two other Klingon ships to intercept the Excelsior.
