The Fighter Wing Command Officer is the second most senior ranking officer of the embarked fighter complement on a carrier-type starship and is expected to personally lead all strike operations made by Tactical Fighter Wing, as well as coordinate the attacks of the fighters under his unit in combat. The Fighter Wing Command Officer is a senior department position on a ship reporting to the carrier's Fighter Group Command Officer. The Fighter Wing Command Officer is assisted by Fighter Squadron Command Officers who hold the rank of Lieutenant Commander. A Fighter Wing Command Officer holds the rank of Commander.
