The Fighter Flight Lead Officer, refers to the commander of any of the tactical fighter flights aboard a Federation starship, leading a standard complement of three fighters.
Duties & Functions[]
The Fighter Flight Lead Officer is expected to personally lead all major strike operations to be conducted by his flight, coordinating the attacks of the fighters of his flight in combat. The Fighter Flight Lead Officer reports to the Fighter Squadron Command Officer who supervises the Tactical Fighter Squadron where his/her flight is attached to. The Fighter Flight Lead Officer has two fighter pilots as wingmen who hold the rank of Lieutenant, JG or Ensign.
In a squadron of 9 tactical fighters, there are 3 Fighter Flight Lead Officers and 6 fighter pilots.
A Fighter Flight Lead Officer generally holds the rank of full Lieutenant.
