Please see the main article on Borg history.

[edit] Assimilation

The Borg don't reproduce but assimilated other humanoids. When a Borg drone assimilates another humanoid, they use tubules to inject about 10,000 nanoprobes. Within 5 seconds, depending on where injected, the nanoprobes terraform the victim's DNA and blood cells and start self replicating using the metal (iron, copper, etc.) in the blood stream. After one minute Borg technology starts to rip though the victim's skin. After a few hours, plating starts to form around the victim's body. The drone is eventually given a designation.

When the Borg assimilate someone, the person becomes one of 6 types of drones. The Borg Queen is not one of these.

[edit] Assimilation Drone

Assimilation Drones are beamed down in groups of dozens or nines and they assimilate worlds.

[edit] Battle Drone

Battle Drones are for battle and usually have small torpedo launcher near the hand or on the arm.

[edit] Core Drone

This drone handles every bit of information ever assimilated for its job. It has to separate the relevant information from the irrelevant. There is one of these on each cube in the core of the ship.

[edit] Medical Drone

A medical repair drone is a type of drone utilized by the Borg collective. The servo-armatures of medical repair drones include a laser scalpel, bio-molecular scanner, micro-suture and dermal regenerator among their inventory of tools. These drones conduct repairs on the biological and cybernetic components on damaged drones.

[edit] Repair Drone

These drones conduct repairs on Borg ships.

[edit] Unimatrix One Drone

A Unimatrix One Drone helps the Borg Queen.

[edit] Major Wars

[edit] Borg-Trionian War

In their search for further species worthy of assimilation, the Borg first encountered Species 8472 after they found a way to enter fluidic space in the 2370s.However,Species 8472 turned out to be immune to the Borg's assimilation attempts and the invasion of their realm provoked a war, which quickly evolved into the first real threat the Borg had faced, and according to Seven of Nine, was the first species to offer true resistance to the Borg. With their superior technology, Species 8472 was able to annihilate large numbers of Borg drones, ships and even planets.Species 8472 was forced to retreat when the crew of Voyager armed warheads with modified nanoprobes capable of destroying their bioships. When they retreated to fluidic space, one member of Species 8472 was left behind and was relentlessly hunted by a group of Hirogen hunters for several months. This individual was later rescued by the crew of Voyager, and Captain Kathryn Janeway intended to return it to fluidic space.Seven of Nine, however, refused to open a rift to Species 8472's realm.Shortly afterwards,in a struggle with one of the Hirogen hunters aboard Voyager,Seven of Nine took the opportunity,in defiance of Janeway's orders,to transport the individual to the Hirogen starships, which then broke off their attack.

[edit] Borg Supercube Crisis

The crisis started when the Borg Supercube in Sector 10 began to regenerate itself. Taking Kathryn Janeway as its new Borg Queen and assimilating the Federation science vessel USS Einstein, the cube headed for Sector 001, with the intention of absorbing, rather than the less-efficient assimilating, Earth and, later, the rest of the Federation. However, the reactivated cube drew the attention of Seven of Nine who heard the voices of the reactivated Borg. After evading the USS Thunderchild, Seven rendezvoused with Captain Jean-Luc Picard on the USS Enterprise-E to devise a defense against the cube. The first casualties When the cube entered the Solar system, it was intercepted by the USS Thunderchild. Despite a valiant defence, the Thunderchild (a veteran of the Borg Incursion of 2373) was absorbed by the cube. This event was witnessed by "Grim" Vargo aboard the Pride, who recorded the entire event and transmitted it on every communications band he could think of. After absorbing the Thunderchild, the Cube absorbed Pluto, much to the shock and surprise of Starfleet Admirals Edward Jellico and Alynna Nechayev. When the cube arrived in orbit of Earth, the Borg demanded to be given both Captain Picard and Seven of Nine or Earth would be absorbed. After the cube's reactivation was discovered by the Thunderchild, which the Cube absorbed directly into its hull, a Federation fleet engaged the Cube at Sector 108. The fleet targeted the weak spot of a cube discovered by Picard at the Battle of Sector 001 several years earlier, with no effect on the Cube. The cube then accelerated towards the Federation fleet absorbing the majority of the starships into its hull. Dozens of starships were lost to the cube, however several, including the USS Nautilus, managed to escape. After 97 seconds, the Federation fleet was either scattered or destroyed and the supercube continued on its way towards Earth. Later, this battle became known as the Slaughter of Sector 108.Sol System StageAfter decimating Federation forces in Sector 108, the Borg supercube absorbed the entire mass of the planet Pluto, before moving deeper into the system. Once in Earth orbit, the cube informed the Federation Council that if they delivered Jean-Luc Picard and Seven of Nine to the Cube, then the Borg would leave Federation space. After intercepting a communique between the Enterprise and Starfleet Command, the Queen realized that Picard and Seven were heading to Trophy World to activate the Doomsday Machine. Unwilling to send the cube to intercept the Enterprise, the Queen flew the supercube into Sol to gather enough mass to spawn 6 smaller starships, which then moved to hold Earth hostage and intercept the Enterprise. After this occurred, Federation Ambassador Lucius Fox, acting against the recommendation of Starfleet Command, attempted to negotiate a cease-fire with the supercube, however, his runabout was destroyed by the supercube.Once the cube's small starships had reached and engaged the Enterprise, Seven of Nine managed to reactivate the Doomsday Machine by becoming its new pilot. After destroying the starships attacking Enterprise, the Doomsday Machine took the Enterprise in tow and headed to Earth at very high warp speeds. On the outer edge of the Sol System, the two ships rendezvoused with the USS Excalibur and a small Federation Task Force, where Picard took command and ordered the Federation ships to engage the Borg starships while the Doomsday Machine engaged the Cube. Both the Doomsday Machine and the Federation Task Force were able to inflict considerable damage on the Borg forces, but they were soon overpowered. The cube, now greatly reduced in size thanks to the Doomsday Machines antiproton blaster, was able to maneuver behind the Doomsday Machine where it began to absorb the Planet Killer, incorporating the impervious neutronium hull into its own structure. However, a backup plan was already in motion in Seven of Nine, who had been injected previously with the Endgame Virus. A firewall devised by the Borg Queen originally prevented the virus from infecting the cube, but Janeway's long dormant personality emerged long enough to allow the supercube to become infected with the virus, which ultimately destroyed the supercube and its starships, however, the assimilated Einstein managed to escape the Sol System. The destruction of the supercube, also led to the death of Admiral Janeway, a somewhat ironic fate given her past history with the Borg. A memorial was held shortly after. The Einstien, which had been present at the battle, vanished in the chaos. The new Borg then declared their new purpose: "To explore strange new worlds... and assimilate them. To seek out new life-forms... and new civilizations... and assimilate them. To boldly go where no Borg had gone before... and assimilate them."

[edit] Borg Invasion of 2381

In 2381 the Borg planed to completely exterminate the United Federation of Planets,Klingon Empire, and other allied worlds in the Alpha and Beta Quadrants and to subjugate the remaining worlds in local space. The invasion left dozens of worlds in the area of the Azure Nebula in utter ruin, decimating much of known space. As a result of the invasion, upwards of 40% of the Federation Starfleet was destroyed, and over 63 billion citizens of the United Federation of Planets,Klingon Empire,Romulan Star Empire,Imperial Romulan State, and non-aligned worlds were butchered.

[edit] Borg Invasion of 2382

In 2382 the Borg attempted to completely exterminate the United Federation of Planets, when single Borg cube penetrated Federation space in an attempt to assimilate Bajor. The Borg Cube was leftover from the Borg Invasion of 2381 and avoided the Federation for a year until 2382.The fleet was unable to stop the cube at Sector 654 and pursued the cube all the way to the Bajoran sector. The cube was eventually destroyed in orbit of Bajor thanks to the intervention of Federation Starfleet Captain Typhuss James Kira of the USS Intrepid NCC-724656-A.However the Borg Cube launched a sphere just as the cube was destroyed,in a last attempt to assimilate Bajor.Captain Chakotay ordered phasers to be locked on the Borg sphere.Voyager destroyed the Borg sphere, stopping the Borg from assimilating Bajor.

[edit] Borg War I

In 2385 the Borg sent two ships to Mars in a plan to assimilate the planet as a base and then go for Earth. They almost succeeded but Commander Serk and James Carlton stopped the already crippled Borg. (Star Trek: Assimilation)

[edit] Borg War II

In 2406 the Borg were fully regenerated from their defeat in 2378 and made another attempt to assimilate Earth.
